John Koumi, Maccy Biochar, Belle Baker. Farming advice and planning with Adelaide Hills Farm Services

For the October edition of the Adelaide Hills Farmcast, Belle returned to the Littlewood Agapanthus Farm, where the Maccy Biochar group was making biochar in the Adelaide Hills.

What is biochar?

Biochar is a form of charcoal and is good for the soil, good as an animal feed supplement, has numerous industrial uses and combats climate change by sequestering carbon.

As you’ll see in this video, the process makes use of dead woody material and converts it into biochar for use as a basis in fertiliser, while sequestering Carbon out of the atmosphere.
